Just when you thought things were looking up, a team like LSU comes and brings us back down to reality. I'm not surprised that UK lost this game; I'm just surprised the way it happened... 49-0
For those of you that want it spelled out (I know I don't), that means that UK let LSU score 7 touchdowns and they couldn't even score one themselves.
What happened to the improved offense this year?
The fact that UK couldn't even score a field goal let alone a touchdown is what disappoints me the most. The high flying offense only put up around a whopping 220 yards; 84 of which were taken back by penalties. So let's look at this for what it is. UK got beat by the better team. We knew it was going to happen, but no one thought it would happen like this.
What needs to be done in order for UK to be successful?
Is the defense not letting Kentucky get into the game, or is the offense that needs to come up with more drives to help the defense? Do you think that it's both sides fault?
What has to happen?

This topic really irks me because it is so obvious.
I think it is a given that the offense has to relieve some of the pressure off of the defense. Get them off the field for at least 5 minutes for a breather. Heck, score a couple of TD's. That is something you notice about consistently good teams (USC, Florida, OSU, Texas). They have a great balance of offense and defense as far as the skill levels go. This is one reason I can't see UofL as a BCS contender. They just don't have the defense. They can score all day on you, but they won't ever stop you. Maybe in a year or so.
As far as the defense being shut down, almost every game this year the offense has done a decent to excellent job on the field. Just think, if the offense had this same game against Florida, I am sure the results would have been the same.
What needs to be done? I think the first thing that needs to happen is to take a look at Mike Archer's defense. Laugh a little. Then laugh some more.
Example: How many times did you see the Cats get South Carolina down to a third and eight only to see them give SC a twelve yard pass across the middle when the defensive backs were 5 yards off the ball? Mike Archer Prevent-D, folks.
Prevent doesn't mean "Prevent UK from winning".
There is no front line pressure...ever. Yes, we may be ranked right at the top in recovered fumbles or whatever. This tells me UK has the skilled players it needs, but no one to corral the talent into a useful form.
Last season it was injuries. This season the excuse is unseasoned players. If freshmen were having to play last year due to the upperclassmen's injuries, shouldn't they be seasoned? What will be the excuse next season?
Defense is the key. That is where the problem lies. We tried Archer before. It didn't work too well. Now, he's back. Go get 'em Barnhart.
